2005 Pipe Masters

Today the Pipe Masters of 2005 is going off. What a fun day. I took several pictures with just a small little pocket camera and even these are OK. Pipe is such an amazing place - you are just so close to the real action.
You will notice that there was a bit of size - and there was quite a crowd on the beach.

8 Feet by Friday!

Surf report indicates the North Shore will crank up again this week. Watch for the biggest New Zealand swell in quite some time. Let's see what the beginning of fall surf brings us!

Flat!

Well, as you can tell by the photo the North Shore is flat. No place to surf, so we'll have to dive today.

Kurt, over at Surfline says:
1-3 ft - ankle to waist high and poor-fair conditions.

Tiny remnants from the faded short-period NNW Swell with clean conditions early this AM. Lighter Trades later today should keep the conditions nice...but it could turn mushy if ONshore Sea Breezes takeover this afternoon.

It is odd, but you can see one guy out in the Surfline cam photo. I wonder what he's waiting for?

Better off with flippers and a snorkel.
Bye for now.

Here's to Chun's Reef

I have written elsewhere about Chun's Reef, which is my favorite local spot to surf. Well today was a great day of long-board fun.

The waves were "head" to "head and a half" high on the sets, and my Surfing Buddy and I got in the water at about 1:30pm. There were only 4 other people out, but we were later joined by another guy. No crowd, great waves, every one was really mellow.

This is the perfect long-board spot. The waves are really consistent on the reef - almost always a right-breaking wave. It is a bit of a paddle out as are many of the Hawaiian breaks, but it is a great place for consistent surf.

I'll keep posting on the surf.
